The Standards
The Seven NZMS™ Standards
The NZMS™ standards framework defines what excellence looks like across seven core areas of motel operation. Each standard outlines what is assessed, why it matters, and the kind of evidence that supports certification — providing a clear, transparent, and practical foundation for review.
NZMS™ standards are designed to recognise care, consistency, professionalism, and operational pride. They are not intended to replace legal, council, health and safety, insurance, or statutory obligations.
Privacy assurance: All information, evidence, and photos submitted as part of your application or self-assessment are reviewed confidentially by NZMS™. They will not be published publicly without your approval.
"Confidence, not compliance."
What NZMS™ Certification Is Not
- — A government accreditation or regulatory approval
- — A legal compliance certificate
- — A replacement for health and safety, council, insurance, or fire safety obligations
- — A guarantee of individual guest satisfaction
- — A complaint resolution or dispute resolution service
NZMS™ certification is an independent standards certificate based on the NZMS™ framework, submitted information, and review. Final certification is always subject to NZMS™ admin review and approval.
