For Guests
Stay With Confidence
NZMS™ helps guests identify New Zealand motels that have chosen to be reviewed against an independent standard of cleanliness, safety, service and guest dignity.
What NZMS™ Certification Means
An NZMS™ certified motel has been assessed against the seven NZMS™ standards — guest experience, cleanliness and presentation, safety awareness and trust, service and communication, operational excellence, reputation and brand confidence, and leadership, accountability and improvement. Certification is an independent recognition that the motel has demonstrated visible standards at the time of review.
What Certification Does Not Guarantee
NZMS™ certification does not guarantee every future guest experience. It does not replace legal, council, health, fire, building or statutory obligations. It is not government accreditation. It recognises that a motel has been assessed against NZMS™ standards at the time of review.
How to Verify a Certified Motel
Certified motels appear in the NZMS™ Certified Motels directory with their certification level and certificate details. You can also verify any NZMS™ certification by motel name or certificate number.
How to Submit Feedback
If you have stayed at an NZMS™ certified motel and wish to share feedback—positive or constructive—you can use the secure NZMS™ feedback form. All feedback is reviewed and treated respectfully.
Submit guest feedback →Why Guest Dignity Matters
NZMS™ is founded on the belief that every guest deserves to be treated with respect, discretion and dignity. Standards are not only about cleanliness and safety — they are about how guests are welcomed, served, and remembered. This principle sits at the heart of the NZMS™ framework.
Why Visible Standards Help
Visible standards give guests a basis for confidence when choosing accommodation. When a motel voluntarily commits to independent review, it signals accountability — and that accountability supports better choices for travellers, families, and communities.
