NZMS™ New Zealand Motel Owners Roundtable

Supporting Owners. Developing Staff. Strengthening the New Zealand Motel.

New Zealand Motel Standards™ is developing a founder-led forum for motel owners and operators across New Zealand. The roundtable will bring owners together to discuss operating standards, staffing, guest expectations, reputation and the practical challenges of running a motel. Its purpose is to listen, share experience and shape useful support for owners and their teams.

Support Motel Owners

Create a trusted owner-to-owner forum where experienced operators can speak candidly about staffing, reputation, guest expectations, operating pressures and the commercial realities of running motel businesses.

Develop Staff

Build practical staff-development support around guest service, communication, presentation, professional conduct and consistent hospitality standards across motel teams.

Strengthen the Motel

Help responsible operators strengthen guest confidence, reputation, operational consistency and future commercial opportunities while preserving the independence of their businesses.

Founding Owners Launch

Meet the Founder — Susie Barber

Susie Barber, Founder & CEO of New Zealand Motel Standards™ and International Etiquette Expert, is meeting established motel owners personally before the inaugural NZMS™ Founding Owners Launch. The first gathering is being developed as a small, invitation-only owner conversation, with launch details issued directly to invited operators once the venue and date are confirmed.

Susie’s approach is relationship-first: visit owners at their properties, understand their businesses, experience their hospitality as a guest where appropriate, and listen before determining what NZMS™ should build next for owners and staff.

What invited owners can expect

01

A private conversation with Susie Barber, Founder & CEO of New Zealand Motel Standards™ and International Etiquette Expert.

02

An opportunity to help shape NZMS™ owner-support services and staff-training initiatives before the wider model is finalised.

03

A complimentary confidential NZMS™ Certification Readiness Review and Guest Confidence & Online Reputation Snapshot for represented motels, where confirmed in the personal invitation.

04

Event-specific access to the NZMS™ Founding Owners Advisory Circle for a limited number of experienced operators.

05

An invitation to introduce other respected motel owners who should be part of the conversation.

Open to owners and operators across New Zealand

Motel owners and operators throughout New Zealand are welcome to express interest, whatever their background. Participation is centred on involvement in the motel sector and a willingness to contribute constructively. Family members and business partners actively involved in a motel are also welcome, subject to the arrangements for each gathering.

Trust before transaction

Attendance at a roundtable, Founder meeting or owner conversation creates no obligation to join NZMS™, seek certification or purchase a service. The objective is to establish trust, hear owner priorities and determine where NZMS™ can create genuine value.

Certification independence is protected

Participation in the NZMS™ New Zealand Motel Owners Roundtable does not influence a certification decision. Certification remains subject to the established NZMS™ standards, evidence and review pathway. Any event-specific fee waiver or owner benefit changes only the stated commercial fee or service benefit; it does not lower the standard, guarantee certification or alter the decision process.

The Roundtable is an NZMS™ initiative. Participation does not imply endorsement, sponsorship or affiliation by any other organisation unless this is expressly confirmed in writing.

Founder Conversation

A stronger motel sector begins by listening to the people who operate it.

Motel owners and operators across New Zealand who would like to contribute to the conversation are invited to contact the NZMS™ Founder Office.
